This is a setting of one of my favourite poems, "Lay A Garland on my hearse", by Francis Beaumont (1584-1616) and John Fletcher (1579-1625). It is scored as a duet for soprano and alto with piano.

Lay a garland on my hearse,
Of dismal yew,
Maidens, willow branches wear,
Say I died true.

My love was false, but I was firm.
Upon my buried body lie
Lightly, thou gentle earth.
